What gws-slides does

This skill gives your agent direct access to Google Slides through the gws CLI tool. It supports core methods on the presentations resource, including create to generate blank decks, get to read the latest slide tree, and batchUpdate to send edit instructions. Slide-level operations are handled under the pages resource.

Every batchUpdate request is validated before execution. If a single update in the list is invalid, the entire operation fails without applying changes. To avoid syntax errors, you can run gws schema to inspect required parameters, types, and defaults before calling any method. The skill requires the gws binary and shared credentials configured in gws-shared.

Install this skill if your workflow involves generating or reading presentations from the console. If you only need to change a slide layout occasionally, the standard browser interface is much simpler.

What it helps with

  • create blank Google Slides presentations with a chosen title
  • fetch the latest presentation structure using its ID
  • apply atomic batches of slide updates via batchUpdate
  • inspect method schemas and parameter flags before calling the API

Example prompts for the agent

  • Create a new Google Slides presentation titled Quarterly Review
  • Inspect the schema for the batchUpdate method in Google Slides
  • Fetch presentation details using gws slides presentations get

## API Resources

### presentations

  - `batchUpdate` — Applies one or more updates to the presentation. Each request is validated before being applied. If any request is not valid, then the entire request will fail and nothing will be applied. Some requests have replies to give you some information about how they are applied. Other requests do not need to return information; these each return an empty reply. The order of replies matches that of the requests.
  - `create` — Creates a blank presentation using the title given in the request. If a `presentationId` is provided, it is used as the ID of the new presentation. Otherwise, a new ID is generated. Other fields in the request, including any provided content, are ignored. Returns the created presentation.
  - `get` — Gets the latest version of the specified presentation.
  - `pages` — Operations on the 'pages' resource

## Discovering Commands

Before calling any API method, inspect it:

```bash
# Browse resources and methods
gws slides --help
# Inspect a method's required params, types, and defaults
gws schema slides.<resource>.<method>
```

Use `gws schema` output to build your `--params` and `--json` flags.
