Where the data comes from
Catalogs →Items come from open sources: official Anthropic, OpenAI, GitHub and Google repositories, plugin marketplaces, the MCP registry and vetted community collections. We write the card texts ourselves. The original SKILL.md or rule file is shown only when its license allows it (MIT, Apache-2.0, CC0 and similar); otherwise we link to GitHub.
FAQ
What are Claude skills?
A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file: a name and description in the frontmatter, instructions for the agent below, and optional scripts or reference files next to it. Claude keeps only the name and description in context and reads the body when a task matches the description or when you call the skill as /name. The format is an open standard (agentskills.io), so Codex, Cursor, Copilot, Gemini CLI, Kiro, OpenCode and Zed read the same files.
What is the difference between a skill and an MCP server?
A skill gives the agent knowledge: instructions, plus scripts the agent can run itself. An MCP server gives it a capability: a separate program that exposes tools for a database, a browser, GitHub or a service API. A skill is useless without the agent tools, and an MCP server knows nothing about your workflow, which is why people often install them in pairs.
Where can I find Claude skills?
Start with the official sources: the anthropics/skills repository (19 skills as of 2026-10-24) and the anthropics/claude-plugins-official marketplace, which Claude Code adds by default. OpenAI marked openai/skills as deprecated and points to openai/plugins instead. Everything else lives in open GitHub repositories and awesome lists. NeVibeCode pulls them into one catalog with install commands for each platform.
Are Claude skills free?
The skills themselves are plain files in public repositories, so downloading and installing them costs nothing. You pay for the agent that runs them: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and the rest need a subscription or API billing from their vendor. Paid skill marketplaces exist too; NeVibeCode does not list them.
Where does the NeVibeCode data come from?
From public GitHub repositories and open registries: the official Anthropic and OpenAI marketplaces, awesome lists and MCP server registries. Stars and install counts come from the source, with the date we took them. We show the original text of a skill or rule only under an open license (MIT, Apache, BSD, CC0, CC-BY). With no license or a restrictive one, the page carries our own description and a link to GitHub.
