npx skills add googleworkspace/cli --skill recipe-create-doc-from-template -a claude-codeWhat recipe-create-doc-from-template does
This skill handles document creation from existing Google Docs templates. It duplicates the source document in Google Drive by file ID, renames it, writes markdown or plain text into the new file, and updates access permissions for team members.
The workflow runs entirely through the gws command-line tool. It relies on four specific steps: copying the file, capturing the new document ID, calling gws docs +write, and applying user permissions with gws drive permissions create. To run this recipe, you must have the gws binary installed and load both gws-drive and gws-docs skills.
Install this if you repeatedly spin up project briefs or reports from a standard layout. If your documents do not rely on templates, the standalone gws-docs skill is sufficient.
What it helps with
- duplicate a Google Docs template under a new name
- append formatted text to a newly created Google Doc
- grant edit permissions on a Google Drive file by email
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a new project brief from template TEMPLATE_DOC_ID and share it with [email protected]
- Copy my doc template TEMPLATE_DOC_ID, insert the Q2 Launch outline, and give writer access to [email protected]
