gws-gmail-triage — Claude skill: unread inbox summary
Lists unread Gmail messages with sender, subject and date. Useful when you want to clear your inbox from the terminal.
npx skills add googleworkspace/cli --skill gws-gmail-triage -a claude-codeWhat gws-gmail-triage does
The skill runs gws gmail +triage and prints a table of unread messages. By default it shows 20 emails matching is:unread. Use --max to change the limit, --query to pass any Gmail search query, and --labels to include label names.
It is read-only, so your mailbox stays untouched. Output defaults to a table, but --format json gives JSON you can pipe into jq.
You need gws installed and auth configured first: the skill relies on ../gws-shared/SKILL.md for global flags and security rules. If that file is missing, gws generate-skills creates it. Worth installing if you triage mail from a terminal; skip it if you live in the Gmail web UI.
What it helps with
- check unread mail from the terminal
- filter inbox by sender
- export subjects as JSON for a script
- list messages that carry labels
- cap the output at a few messages
Example prompts for the agent
- show my unread emails
- gws gmail +triage --max 5 --query 'from:boss'
- dump the inbox summary as JSON
