gws-drive-upload — Claude skill: upload files to Google Drive
This skill uploads a file to Google Drive with one command and detects the MIME type for you. Handy when an agent needs to drop a report or dataset into a folder.
npx skills add googleworkspace/cli --skill gws-drive-upload -a claude-codeWhat gws-drive-upload does
The skill hands your agent the command gws drive +upload . MIME type is detected automatically, and the filename comes from the local path. Want a different name? Pass --name. Need it in a specific folder? Pass --parent with the folder ID.
Inside there is a single SKILL.md covering the command, its flags and a few examples. It runs through the gws CLI, so you need that binary and working auth first — without them the command fails. Read ../gws-shared/SKILL.md before the first run; it holds global flags and security rules. If that file is missing, generate it with gws generate-skills.
This is a write command, so it changes your Drive and the skill asks for user confirmation before running. Install it if your agent uploads files often. For a one-off upload, or if you would rather not give an agent write access, just do it yourself.
What it helps with
- upload a report to Google Drive from the terminal
- drop a CSV into a folder by its ID
- save an uploaded file under a different name
- give an agent a command to write a file into Drive
Example prompts for the agent
- upload ./report.pdf to Google Drive
- put ./data.csv into folder FOLDER_ID
- upload ./report.pdf as 'Sales Data.csv'
