validate-idea — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Tests a business idea against the Minimalist Entrepreneur framework before anyone writes a line of code.
npx skills add slavingia/skills --skill validate-idea -a claude-codeWhat validate-idea does
This skill walks through validating a business idea before writing code, based on Sahil Lavingia's The Minimalist Entrepreneur: sell a manual version of the solution first instead of building it. The agent asks who specifically has the problem, how they solve it today, and whether they'd pay to make it go away.
Next it checks whether the problem can be solved by hand — what the author calls "processizing": doing it yourself for a few customers before automating anything. Validation here means talking to at least ten potential customers and getting a few to agree to pay. The skill also lists four questions to ask before building and separate red-flag and green-flag checklists.
It finishes with one of three verdicts: validated, needs more validation, or pivot. There's no external tool or API behind it, just a structured conversation, so it fits a quick chat with an agent before any prototype exists.
What it helps with
- decide whether an idea is worth building before writing code
- define who exactly has the problem and whether they'd pay
- validate an idea by selling a manual version first
- get a red-flag and green-flag checklist before committing to build
- get a verdict: proceed, gather more evidence, or pivot
Example prompts for the agent
- Help me validate my idea for an invoicing tool for freelance designers.
- Run validate-idea on my marketplace concept.
- Use the validate-idea skill to check if my app idea is worth building.
