What eva-skill does

This skill routes European Variation Archive queries through a local scripts/rest_request.py script. The agent sends a structured JSON payload to standard input to fetch targeted variant records or species lists without pulling heavy genomic blocks.

Results come back as compact markdown summaries by default. Raw JSON output is reserved for explicit requests, which protects the context window from bloat. During prolonged conversations, the skill triggers fresh queries instead of relying on cached historical output.

Execution requires Python and the bundled scripts/rest_request.py script. Install this if you routinely inspect EVA variant identifiers or species assemblies in Codex.

What it helps with

  • retrieve species lists and assembly metadata from the EVA archive
  • look up archived genetic variants by rsID
  • query narrow genomic coordinates for a specific species
  • format raw REST responses into readable markdown summaries

Example prompts for the agent

  • Look up variant rs699 in EVA and give me a brief summary
  • List available species assemblies using the EVA metadata endpoint
  • Fetch the EVA record for this variant and save raw JSON to a file
