company-research — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Builds a company brief from public sources: quotes from leaders, product strategy, how the org works. Useful before an interview, a partner meeting or a competitor review.
npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill company-research -a claude-codeWhat company-research does
The skill takes a company name and a purpose, passed as two arguments, [company name] [purpose]. What comes back is a brief: how the company is put together, what its leaders say, where the product is heading. It sits in the deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills repository under CC-BY-SA-4.0.
It works in steps. First the research frame and the questions you want answered. Then company basics and history. Then quotes from the CEO, COO, VP Product and Group PM, each with a source and a date. After that product strategy, transformation efforts and product-led growth. The structure is filled into template.md. Expect roughly 20-40 minutes.
Everything comes from public material. If the leadership has never spoken on the record, there are no quotes to pull and the brief stays half-empty. Check that before you start rather than after. It also stays away from valuation and from a strengths-and-weaknesses assessment: you get the company's own account of itself.
What it helps with
- build a company brief before an interview
- collect executive quotes with sources and dates
- read a competitor's product strategy from public signals
- draft a partner dossier ahead of a first meeting
- compare how companies describe product-led growth
Example prompts for the agent
- Build a brief on Stripe — I have an interview with their product team on Friday
- I'm meeting Figma as a possible partner next week; I need to know how they make money and what leadership says
- Run a competitor analysis on Linear, focus on product strategy and product-led growth

Questions about company-research
How do I install company-research in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill company-research -a claude-code. The skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/company-research/SKILL.md.
What does company-research do?
Pulls a brief together from public sources: company overview, quotes from executives, product strategy, org context. The purpose you give it shifts what the brief emphasises.
Does it work if the company's leaders never speak publicly?
No. The quotes come from talks, podcasts, earnings calls and blogs, so without that material the brief comes out thin. Worth checking before you run it.
