What prioritization-advisor does

The skill walks a PM through choosing how work gets ranked instead of scoring the work itself. It asks up to four questions with ready-made answers: product stage, team and stakeholder setup, and the decision the framework has to support. What comes back is one recommended framework plus guidance on implementing it in your context. A run takes about 15–25 minutes.

Frameworks sit in three groups: scoring ones like RICE, ICE, value/effort and weighted scoring; strategic ones like Kano, Opportunity Scoring, Buy-a-Feature and MoSCoW; contextual ones like Cost of Delay, Impact Mapping and Story Mapping. Each entry spells out what it demands of your data and your team. Nothing is calculated here: the point is matching method to situation, and the file says so.

Worth knowing before you start: the question flow is defined by workshop-facilitation, a separate skill in the same repository. It supplies the session modes, progress labels and numbered answer options, so install it alongside if you want the session to run as described. Context pasted right after the skill name already counts as answers and won't be asked again.

What it helps with

  • pick a prioritization framework that fits your product stage
  • settle RICE versus value/effort for roadmap planning
  • stop the recurring argument about how work gets ranked
  • switch frameworks without bouncing between them every quarter
  • onboard a new PM to the team's ranking process

Example prompts for the agent

  • Help me pick a prioritization framework: early-stage B2B startup, crowded backlog, no usage data, one loud enterprise prospect.
  • We keep fighting over how to rank work. Recommend a framework for our team and tell me how to roll it out.
  • Mature product, we want to move off RICE toward something that suits incremental optimization. What fits?

Questions about prioritization-advisor

How do I install prioritization-advisor in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill prioritization-advisor -a claude-code. The skill ends up at ~/.claude/skills/prioritization-advisor/SKILL.md.

What does prioritization-advisor do?

It asks up to four questions about product stage, team and stakeholders, then names a matching prioritization framework and gives implementation steps. It doesn't produce scores or rankings.

Do I need other skills for it to work?

The session flow comes from workshop-facilitation, another skill in the same repository: it covers entry modes, progress labels and numbered reply options. The framework knowledge itself is in prioritization-advisor.
