What sanctions does

sanctions gives MCP-compatible agents access to sanctions screening for individuals and organisations. Person searches can use a name, date of birth, and nationality; organisation searches accept a name and optional country. Czech companies can also be checked by IČO or a comparable identifier. Fuzzy matching helps surface candidates, but a weak name match needs further review before anyone makes a final sanctions decision.

The server can retrieve the underlying entry for a search result and report listings added, removed, or changed since a chosen date. Its paid rescreen_portfolio operation checks an existing portfolio for subjects affected by list changes and requires x402 to be enabled. The free tier has rate limits.

Local deployment uses the @czagents/sanctions npm package and a SQLite database. Populate or refresh the database with npx @czagents/sanctions-refresh, then configure SANCTIONS_DB for the server process. Keep the database current: an empty IČO result is not a clean bill of health when the server reports that its data is stale or unavailable.

What it helps with

  • Screen a person using their name and identifying details
  • Search company names across EU and OFAC sanctions lists
  • Check a Czech company identifier against sanctions records
  • Inspect the source entry behind a possible match
  • Review sanctions-list changes since a selected date

Example prompts for the agent

  • Screen this person against EU and OFAC sanctions lists using their name, date of birth, and nationality.
  • Check this Czech company by IČO and show any matching sanctions records.
  • Find EU sanctions-list entries changed since 2026-07-01.

Questions about sanctions

How do I install sanctions in Claude Code?

To connect the hosted server, run claude mcp add --transport http sanctions https://sanctions.cz-agents.dev/mcp. To run it locally through npx, use claude mcp add sanctions -- npx -y @czagents/sanctions. These are alternative setup methods.

What does the sanctions MCP server do?

It searches people and organisations against EU and OFAC sanctions lists, supports Czech company checks by IČO, and retrieves full listing records. It can also report list changes and, with paid access and x402 enabled, re-screen an existing portfolio.

Can an empty company-ID result confirm that a business is clear?

No. If the sanctions database is stale or unavailable, an empty result does not establish that the company is absent from the lists. Check database status and review relevant identifiers before making a decision.
