Cline is an AI coding agent that runs inside your editor. Project rules go in .clinerules/ or .cline/rules/, global ones in ~/Documents/Cline/Rules. Frontmatter is optional: without it a rule always applies, with a paths field it applies only to matching files, and paths: [] turns it off. Each rule also has an on/off toggle in the UI.
Cline picks up other tools' files on its own: .cursorrules, .windsurfrules and AGENTS.md. Coming from Cursor, your old rules keep working with no conversion. The npx skills add owner/repo -a cline installer puts skills for Cline into .agents/skills/.
