What gateway does

The gateway acts as an MCP bridge to your local Recordist setup. Read tools fetch meeting data even when the desktop client is shut down: the server attempts to hit the local API first and falls back to inspecting recordist.db directly in read-only mode. Assistants can run FTS5 search queries across past conversations, inspect summaries, and extract transcripts in markdown, json, srt, vtt, or plain text.

Mutating actions depend strictly on the desktop client running in the background. Starting and stopping a recording, appending timeline markers, or asking to regenerate notes will error out if the app process is missing. Starting an active recording also fails unless you explicitly enable the agent recording permission inside the application settings.

All internal traffic stays on the 127.0.0.1 loopback address by default. Using the standard stdio transport requires no authentication tokens, while HTTP transport modes demand a Bearer token sourced from the local api_token file.

What it helps with

  • run full-text search across past call transcripts and notes
  • collect pending action items from recorded discussions
  • extract meeting dialogues into SRT or Markdown formats
  • trigger and bookmark local audio recordings via assistant tools

Example prompts for the agent

  • Show all open action items from my meetings recorded yesterday
  • Search my meeting transcripts for mentions of database migration blockers
  • Fetch the transcript of the latest design sync as markdown
