Mindwtr — Claude Code MCP server: tasks and projects
Wires an AI client into your Mindwtr tasks through a local SQLite file, the desktop Local API, or your own Cloud endpoint. Read-only unless you opt in.
claude mcp add --env MINDWTR_DB_PATH=<MINDWTR_DB_PATH> --env MINDWTR_MCP_CLOUD_URL=<MINDWTR_MCP_CLOUD_URL> --env MINDWTR_MCP_CLOUD_TOKEN=<MINDWTR_MCP_CLOUD_TOKEN> --env MINDWTR_MCP_API_URL=<MINDWTR_MCP_API_URL> --env MINDWTR_MCP_API_TOKEN=<MINDWTR_MCP_API_TOKEN> --transport stdio mcp-server -- npx -y mindwtr-mcpWhat Mindwtr does
Mindwtr is an MCP server that hands your agent the tasks and projects stored in the Mindwtr app. It runs as a stdio process: the client spawns it and exchanges JSON-RPC over stdin and stdout. An HTTP transport exists too, aimed at people hosting Mindwtr Cloud themselves.
Pick one backend. In SQLite mode the server opens mindwtr.db directly, with the path coming from --db or the MINDWTR_DB_PATH and MINDWTR_DB variables. Local API mode talks to the REST endpoints of a running desktop app using a bearer token and never touches the database. Cloud mode points at your own URL with a token. Combining API with Cloud or --db is not allowed, and the server rejects it.
The standalone helper wants Node.js 20+, and 22+ is the better bet. SQLite mode pulls in the better-sqlite3 native addon, so without a prebuilt binary for your platform npm will ask for a C/C++ toolchain and Python for node-gyp. On npm 12 you have to approve that dependency's install script, or the install succeeds and startup dies on a missing native binding. Writes stay off until you pass --write.
What it helps with
- pull a task list out of Mindwtr inside the chat
- filter tasks by dates and status with search operators
- add or complete a task without opening the app
- group projects by area and sequential behaviour
- give an agent task access without handing over the database
Example prompts for the agent
- List every Mindwtr task due this week
- Find Mindwtr tasks tagged urgent and sort them by date
- Create a Mindwtr task called Team sync for tomorrow

Questions about Mindwtr
How do I install Mindwtr in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add mindwtr -e MINDWTR_MCP_CLOUD_TOKEN=<MINDWTR_MCP_CLOUD_TOKEN> -e MINDWTR_MCP_API_TOKEN=<MINDWTR_MCP_API_TOKEN> -- npx -y mindwtr-mcp.
What does Mindwtr do?
It exposes Mindwtr tasks, projects and areas to an MCP client. Data comes from the local database, the desktop Local API, or your Cloud endpoint.
Why does the server fail at startup right after install?
The better-sqlite3 install script was probably not approved. For npx or global installs allow only that one: npx --allow-scripts=better-sqlite3 -y mindwtr-mcp --db "/path/to/mindwtr.db".
