What Inbox Zero does

Inbox Zero is an MCP server that gives your agent access to your mailbox. Through it you can search Gmail and Outlook, save drafts, set up rules for incoming mail and view email stats. Handy when triaging email happens in the same window where you write code.

The server speaks HTTP and connects with one command in Claude, Codex or Gemini CLI; Cursor and GitHub Copilot get a ready JSON block pointing at https://www.getinboxzero.com/mcp. No local dependencies to install — everything runs on the service side.

One thing to weigh: this is a cloud server, so mailbox requests go to getinboxzero.com. If your project forbids external services, this setup won't fit.

What it helps with

  • find an email by sender or subject without opening a mail client
  • save a reply draft straight from the agent
  • set an inbox rule in plain language
  • check email activity stats
  • clear a backlog without leaving the editor

Example prompts for the agent

  • Find emails from the client in Gmail over the past week
  • Save a draft reply to the latest message from the team
  • Show me inbox stats for this month
