kronan-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects your coding assistant to the Icelandic Krónan grocery API. It lets the model search store items, build carts, and track deliveries.
claude mcp add kronan-mcp -e KRONAN_ACCESS_TOKEN=<KRONAN_ACCESS_TOKEN> -- npx -y kronan-mcpWhat kronan-mcp does
This server exposes 25 tools through the Model Context Protocol to interface with Krónan Snjallverslun. The assistant can look up catalog items, modify checkout lines, inspect purchase history, and organize shopping notes. All product prices use whole integer numbers in ISK without decimals.
Setup needs an API token starting with act_. You generate this credential inside the Krónan account settings page, which requires an Icelandic electronic ID (Audkenni) to log in. Without that electronic identity, you cannot use this integration. Outgoing error messages automatically scrub the token so keys do not leak into model context.
The backend enforces a rate quota of 200 requests within 200 seconds. When hitting status 429, the client tells the assistant to pause. Methods like set_order_substitution and set_line_completion toggle values rather than setting them idempotently. Never retry timed-out toggle actions without querying current status first.
What it helps with
- look up groceries and categories in the Krónan inventory
- place specific SKU quantities into the online checkout
- organize and update private grocery lists
- monitor placed orders and tweak replacement settings
Example prompts for the agent
- Check Krónan for whole milk and list the prices
- Put 2 units of SKU 02500188 into my shopping checkout
- List my latest grocery purchases and order details

Questions about kronan-mcp
How to install kronan-mcp in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add kronan-mcp -e KRONAN_ACCESS_TOKEN=<KRONAN_ACCESS_TOKEN> -- npx -y kronan-mcp. Replace <KRONAN_ACCESS_TOKEN> with your personal token from Krónan settings.
What does kronan-mcp do?
It provides an MCP interface for Iceland's Krónan supermarket chain. The integration gives coding agents 25 distinct actions covering search and checkout operations.
Can anyone generate the required access token?
Generating the token requires signing into Krónan Snjallverslun via Audkenni, the Icelandic electronic identification system. Without Audkenni authentication, token creation is impossible.
