FTX MCP — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects FactoryTalk Optix Studio to AI assistants on Windows 11. It builds HMI displays from natural text prompts and inspects them in the emulator.
claude mcp add ftx-mcp -- uvx ftx-mcpWhat FTX MCP — FactoryTalk Optix MCP Server does
This server bridges your assistant directly with FactoryTalk Optix Studio 1.7.x. The model writes changes into the active project, modifying UI layouts or wiring control properties to data model tags. Deployment to real hardware remains under manual engineer control in Studio.
Integration relies on StudioMCPBridge.cs mounted as a DesignTime NetLogic item inside the Optix project tree. To confirm visual changes, the tool starts the local emulator and captures the rendered interface via Chrome DevTools Protocol and Pillow. All project operations stay on your local workstation without external cloud dependencies.
A local .NET SDK 8 or higher is mandatory, because build_check returns no_dotnet if the runtime is missing. PowerShell installer scripts must run inside a standard console window rather than sandboxed terminals, or filesystem operations in %LOCALAPPDATA% will fail.
What it helps with
- create and update HMI screens inside Optix Studio
- bind visual properties to data tags in the project model
- test runtime screen rendering in the local emulator
- detect C# compilation issues using .NET SDK tooling
Example prompts for the agent
- Add a label saying 'Hello Optix' to Screen 1 and display it.
- Bind the visibility of this element to Model/PumpRunning.
- Start the Optix emulator to verify UI rendering.
