Runs a structured SWOT analysis for a product or business and produces actionable recommendations. Helpful during strategic assessment and competitive evaluation.
npx skills add phuryn/pm-skills --skill swot-analysis -a claude-codeWhat swot-analysis does
The skill evaluates internal strengths and weaknesses alongside external opportunities and threats. It maps 5-7 factors per quadrant to assess product positioning. You need to supply a product description and internal resource constraints. Customer usage data remains optional.
After cataloging factors, the skill cross-references them to uncover strategic insights. It examines how strengths help capture opportunities or how weaknesses expose the product to threats. The output delivers 3-5 strategic recommendations complete with priorities and tracking metrics. Strategic directions include Build, Defend, Pivot, or Exit.
An evaluation without competitor benchmarks will fail to deliver realistic insights because threats depend directly on market standards. The author recommends running this assessment quarterly or whenever industry dynamics shift.
What it helps with
- identify internal strengths and weaknesses across product capabilities
- evaluate external market threats and emerging opportunities
- formulate strategic recommendations with concrete metrics
- decide whether to build, defend, pivot, or exit a product initiative
