gws-gmail — Claude skill: Gmail from the terminal
This skill hands your agent Gmail: send mail, read the inbox, reply in a thread. Useful when email work already runs through the gws CLI.
npx skills add googleworkspace/cli --skill gws-gmail -a claude-codeWhat gws-gmail does
The skill wraps the Gmail API in commands shaped like gws gmail [flags]. Helper commands cover the common jobs: +send, +triage for an unread summary, +reply and +reply-all with threading handled for you, +forward, +read to pull a body or headers, and +watch to stream new mail as NDJSON. Underneath sit the API resources users, drafts, history, labels, messages, settings and threads.
Before calling a method, inspect it with gws schema gmail.. — that output tells you the required params and types for your --params and --json flags. Auth, global flags and security rules live in ../gws-shared/SKILL.md; if that file is missing, run gws generate-skills. The gws binary has to be installed, otherwise nothing runs.
Worth installing if your mail tasks already live in a terminal and you want the agent reading and sending without a browser tab. If Gmail is not your main inbox, or you would rather not hand an agent your correspondence, skip it.
What it helps with
- send an email without leaving the terminal
- pull an unread summary with sender, subject and date
- reply inside a thread while keeping it threaded
- forward a message to new recipients
- stream incoming mail as NDJSON
Example prompts for the agent
- send an email to [email protected] with subject "Deploy is done"
- show me today's unread summary
- reply to the last message from the client and keep the thread
