email-mcp · codefuturist — Claude Code MCP server: IMAP and SMTP email
Gives your agent a mailbox: read, search, send and watch incoming mail. Handy when you want to clear an inbox without leaving the chat.
claude mcp add email-mcp -- npx -y @codefuturist/email-mcpWhat email-mcp does
The server exposes 52 tools, 7 prompts and 6 resources over MCP. It handles several accounts at once, plus drafts, templates, provider-aware labels, scheduled sending and ICS calendar extraction. The IMAP IDLE watcher keeps a connection open and pushes new mail to the agent, which sorts it by your rules. Verification codes get caught and copied to the clipboard, then cleared automatically.
Two transports: stdio for local clients, Streamable HTTP for networked access. Existing stdio setups keep working as they are. Config is TOML at ~/.config/email-mcp/config.toml, and the provider is detected for you — Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud, Fastmail, ProtonMail, Zoho, GMX. Passwords stay out of logs, connections use TLS/STARTTLS, and a token-bucket limiter caps requests per account. Attachment downloads are capped at 5 MB in base64.
Node.js 24 or newer is required. If npm's global prefix is root-owned, npm install -g fails with EACCES — running through npx sidesteps that because nothing lands globally. OAuth2 for Gmail and Microsoft 365 is marked experimental, so try it on a test account before pointing it at a mailbox you care about.
What it helps with
- read and sort incoming mail from several accounts
- find a message by sender or subject
- send a reply or forward a message
- schedule an email for later
- pull a verification code out of a fresh message
Example prompts for the agent
- Show today's unread mail and sort it by importance
- Find the invoice email from accounting last month
- Reply to the client's latest message with the text I'm about to write
