truss44-mcp-crypto-price — Claude Code MCP server for crypto prices
Hands your agent live crypto prices, fiat rates and a market overview from CoinCap. Useful when you want portfolio math or exchange data without leaving the chat.
claude mcp add --transport http truss44-mcp-crypto-price https://server.smithery.ai/@truss44/mcp-crypto-price/mcpWhat truss44-mcp-crypto-price does
The server talks to CoinCap v3 and exposes a set of tools: current price and 24h stats, converting an amount into fiat, market analysis with the top 5 exchanges and VWAP, global figures such as Bitcoin dominance, fiat and crypto rates, exchanges ranked by volume, top assets by market cap, fuzzy search by name or symbol, a detail card for one coin, and a side-by-side comparison of 2–5 coins.
Tool names carry a category prefix — price-*, market-*, assets-*, analysis-*. Both STDIO and Streamable HTTP transports work; over HTTP the server listens on port 3000, and PORT changes that. HTTP clients pass the key in the URL itself: http://localhost:3000/mcp?COINCAP_API_KEY=YOUR_API_KEY_HERE.
You need Node.js 22.14+ and a COINCAP_API_KEY — a free tier exists, but every tool errors out without a valid key. CoinCap v2 is gone, so older configs pointing at it stop working. Running through the Smithery CLI means authenticating with smithery auth login or SMITHERY_API_KEY; recent CLI builds reject keys passed via --key.
What it helps with
- check a coin's price and its 24h move
- convert a crypto amount into a fiat currency
- compare several coins by market cap and volume
- see how trading volume splits across exchanges
- find a coin by part of its name or ticker
Example prompts for the agent
- What's BTC trading at right now, and how did it move today?
- Convert 2.5 BTC to EUR
- Compare BTC, ETH and SOL by market cap and volume
