Finance Toolkit — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Calculates corporate financial metrics directly from raw financial statements. Helps avoid methodology discrepancies across different market portals.
claude mcp add --transport http financetoolkit https://financetoolkit.jeroenbouma.com/mcpWhat Finance Toolkit does
The server extracts financial ratios and valuation metrics from primary accounting statements rather than pre-calculated endpoints. Commercial data feeds often show conflicting price-to-earnings figures for the exact same stock because their underlying math is hidden. JerBouma designed this toolkit around 500+ documented methods to keep each calculation step inspectable.
You can connect to the server via a remote HTTP endpoint or run it on your machine using uvx financetoolkit. Running the stdio version locally requires a FINANCIAL_MODELING_PREP_API_KEY. Without that environment variable, the local runner cannot retrieve the balance sheet data.
What it helps with
- Calculate verifiable P/E ratios for publicly traded companies
- Compute financial metrics directly from raw statements without black-box logic
- Standardize accounting calculation methods across research tasks
Example prompts for the agent
- Calculate the P/E ratio for Microsoft using its raw financial statements
- Compute liquidity and valuation ratios for the latest annual statement

Questions about Finance Toolkit
How to install Finance Toolkit in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http financetoolkit https://financetoolkit.jeroenbouma.com/mcp. This sets up the remote HTTP connection without local installation steps.
What does Finance Toolkit do?
It computes more than 500 ratios and valuation metrics directly from original financial statements. All formulas remain fully open, avoiding reliance on conflicting aggregator endpoints.
Do I need an API key to use Finance Toolkit?
A FINANCIAL_MODELING_PREP_API_KEY is required only when running the stdio server locally via uvx financetoolkit. The remote HTTP endpoint functions without passing local keys.
