Trident (Tripo 3D) — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Connects Tripo 3D API v3 tools to AI coding agents. It automates mesh generation from text or images, rigging, texturing, and file exports to local storage.
claude mcp add trident-tripo-3d -- docker run -i --rm ghcr.io/mordor-forge/trident-mcp:0.4.0What Trident (Tripo 3D) does
This server exposes 28 operations from the Tripo v3 API directly over stdio. An assistant can turn text prompts, single photos, or multiview images into textured 3D meshes. The toolset also handles retopology, UV unwrapping, skeletal rigging, motion, segmentation, and Gaussian splat synthesis.
Jobs run asynchronously. A creation tool checks parameters locally, submits source files, and produces a task identifier. Next, wait_for_task listens for completion events and downloads assets into <output dir>/<task_id>/. You can chain outputs across steps by passing the returned identifier from a mesh build into a rigging or FBX export call.
Without a valid TRIPO_API_KEY in your environment, every request fails. Output files default to ~/generated_models, and custom endpoints can be targeted via TRIPO_BASE_URL.
What it helps with
- generate 3D meshes from text prompts or reference images
- apply retopology and UV unwrapping to 3D models
- add skeletal rigging and animations to character assets
- build Gaussian splats and convert assets into FBX files
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a low-poly treasure chest model from this prompt and export it to FBX
- Generate a 3D character mesh using this reference photo and add a skeletal rig
- Run retopology and texture baking for the model generated in task

Questions about Trident (Tripo 3D)
How do you install Trident (Tripo 3D) in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add trident-tripo-3d -- docker run -i --rm ghcr.io/mordor-forge/trident-mcp:0.4.0 in your terminal.
What environment variables does the server need?
It requires TRIPO_API_KEY configured with your Tripo platform key. You can also customize MODEL_OUTPUT_DIR to change where assets are saved and TRIPO_BASE_URL for regional endpoints.
How does the server store generated assets?
The wait_for_task command saves all deliverables locally under <output dir>/<task_id>/. This folder collects files such as model.glb, rendered preview images, and generated angles.
