ChiR24-unreal_mcp_server — Unreal Engine MCP server: setup
Connect an AI assistant to a running Unreal Editor and let it work with levels, Blueprints, materials, and more. Useful for editor tasks handled through chat.
claude mcp add --transport http chir24-unreal-mcp-server https://server.smithery.ai/@ChiR24/unreal_mcp_server/mcpWhat ChiR24-unreal_mcp_server does
The server connects an assistant to the EngineWire plugin running inside Unreal Editor. Its unreal tool can place actors, create Blueprint graphs, arrange UI, edit materials, run Play-In-Editor, and inspect logs. It also covers gameplay systems, effects, and scenes.
Clients can connect over HTTP or through a local Node.js process using stdio and WebSocket. Editor actions run on the game thread, and the server listens on 127.0.0.1; project capability tokens are required by default. Installing the plugin requires Unreal Engine 5.0–5.8 and a project with C++ code. Blueprint-only projects need prebuilt binaries, while the stdio route requires Node.js 20.19 or later.
What it helps with
- place actors and save a level
- create a Blueprint with variables and components
- build a material graph or Niagara effect
- run Play-In-Editor and capture a screenshot
- inspect project logs from the editor
Example prompts for the agent
- Build a level and place the requested actors in it.
- Create a Blueprint with components and an event graph.
- Run Play-In-Editor, capture a screenshot, and inspect the logs.
