servicenow-nodejs — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Connect Claude Code to ServiceNow so an agent can search records and work with table data. The server can route requests across multiple instances.
claude mcp add --env SERVICENOW_INSTANCE_URL=<SERVICENOW_INSTANCE_URL> --env SERVICENOW_USERNAME=<SERVICENOW_USERNAME> --env SERVICENOW_PASSWORD=<SERVICENOW_PASSWORD> --env SERVICENOW_AUTH_TYPE=<SERVICENOW_AUTH_TYPE> --env SERVICENOW_INSTANCE=<SERVICENOW_INSTANCE> --transport stdio servicenow-nodejs -- npx -y servicenow-mcp-serverWhat servicenow-nodejs does
The server gives an agent tools for ServiceNow, including general table operations, natural-language search, and specialized actions. It discovers table structures and relationships at runtime. Multiple instances can be connected, with requests routed per instance; each needs REST API access and valid credentials.
Authentication options include OAuth 2.0 and Basic Auth. The server also supports batch operations and read-only MCP resources. Each instance needs working API access and credentials, so those must be ready before the connection can work. Setup uses npx and passes the instance URL, username, and password to the server.
What it helps with
- search ServiceNow records in plain language
- read data from ServiceNow tables
- route requests across ServiceNow instances
- run batch operations on records
Example prompts for the agent
- Find open incident records in ServiceNow.
- Show the structure of the user table and its relationships.
- Compare records from my connected ServiceNow instances.
