secedgar-mcp-server — Claude Code MCP server: data and setup
This MCP server queries SEC EDGAR filings, XBRL financials, and company records. Use it when an agent needs filings or ownership data.
claude mcp add --transport http secedgar-mcp-server https://secedgar.caseyjhand.com/mcpWhat secedgar-mcp-server does
secedgar-mcp-server lets an agent search SEC EDGAR by ticker, company name, or CIK, browse filings, and retrieve document text. It also exposes historical XBRL values, company comparisons, insider transactions, institutional holdings, blockholders, and fund portfolios.
The package includes tools for financial and filing queries, two resources covering XBRL concepts and filing types, plus a company-analysis prompt. You can connect through the public Streamable HTTP endpoint or run it locally with npx. No API key is required. Archive full-text searches before 2001 need a ticker or CIK scope, while the archive reaches back to 1993.
What it helps with
- look up a company by ticker, name, or CIK
- search SEC filings by text or form
- compare financial concepts across companies
- inspect insider trades and institutional holdings
- trace blockholders and material 8-K events
Example prompts for the agent
- Find a company by its ticker and show its latest SEC filings.
- Compare several companies using selected financial concepts over matching periods.
- Analyze this company’s filings for trends, risk factors, and material events.
