Scout — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Controls a browser directly over Chrome DevTools Protocol without Node.js or Python. Helps agents inspect pages, submit forms, capture screenshots, and extract Markdown.
claude mcp add scout -- docker run -i --rm ghcr.io/felixgeelhaar/scout:1.10.0What Scout does
The server links AI agents directly to a browser via the Chrome DevTools Protocol. Node.js is not needed. A single binary handles actions over a raw WebSocket connection.
Inside are tools for interacting with forms and switching tabs. It distills page contents into dense Markdown and calculates DOM differences to reduce prompt token usage. Agents can also toggle between headless and visible windows mid-session.
Loopback access is blocked out of the box. Without setting allow_private_ips or running with SCOUT_ALLOW_PRIVATE_IPS=1, the agent cannot reach a local development server.
What it helps with
- Automate form submission and UI interactions in a browser
- Extract clean page content as compact Markdown to conserve tokens
- Record screen sessions or capture screenshots across page transitions
- Inspect broken network requests and browser console errors
Example prompts for the agent
- Open
https://example.com, fill out the signup form, and submit it - Take a screenshot of
https://react.devand check for console errors - Convert

Questions about Scout
How do I install Scout in Claude Code?
Run the registration command: claude mcp add scout -- docker run -i --rm ghcr.io/felixgeelhaar/scout:1.10.0.
How does Scout differ from Playwright?
It runs without Node.js or Python environments by communicating directly via CDP. The server also uses DOM diffing and Markdown extraction to conserve model context tokens.
How do I allow the agent to test localhost applications?
Private IP access is disabled out of the box. Enable it by calling configure with allow_private_ips: true or by setting the SCOUT_ALLOW_PRIVATE_IPS=1 environment variable.
