What Skyvern does

Skyvern automates browser workflows by combining vision-capable LLMs with Playwright. Instead of relying on rigid DOM selectors or custom XPath strings, it analyzes page screenshots and visual layouts. This allows it to interact with unknown websites and survive design overhauls.

Under the hood, a swarm of agents handles planning and navigation. For local hosting, Skyvern requires Python 3.11, 3.12, or 3.13, storing records in an SQLite file at ~/.skyvern/data.db unless pointed to Postgres. Windows users need Rust and C++ build tools installed before running pip builds.

What it helps with

  • fill out multi-step web forms without custom selectors
  • extract tabular data from websites with dynamic layouts
  • run repetitive browser workflows across different websites
  • automate web navigation using vision and Playwright

Example prompts for the agent

  • Open the target site and fill out the contact form with sample data.
  • Navigate through the product catalog and extract prices into a list.
  • Log into the dashboard and download the latest billing statement.

Questions about Skyvern

How do I install Skyvern in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add --transport http skyvern https://api.skyvern.com/mcp/ in your terminal.

How does Skyvern handle website layout changes?

It uses vision LLMs to read the page visually instead of relying on hardcoded XPath queries. Because of this, modified button styles or rearranged DOM trees do not break the workflow.

What are the dependencies for running Skyvern locally?

You need Python 3.11 through 3.13. On Windows, you also need Rust and the C++ build tools with the Windows SDK.
