Replit SSH — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Inspect and modify Replit project files over SSH and SFTP straight from AI coding assistants.
claude mcp add --env REPLIT_SSH_REQUEST_TIMEOUT_MS=<REPLIT_SSH_REQUEST_TIMEOUT_MS> --env MCP_REPLIT_SSH_STRICT_HOST_KEY=<MCP_REPLIT_SSH_STRICT_HOST_KEY> --env MCP_REPLIT_SSH_KNOWN_HOSTS_PATH=<MCP_REPLIT_SSH_KNOWN_HOSTS_PATH> --transport stdio replit-ssh -- npx -y @mindstone/mcp-server-replit-sshWhat Replit SSH does
This MCP server exposes project files on Replit via SSH and SFTP. It lets agents list directories, read source code, inspect metadata, delete, and overwrite project assets. File writes happen atomically, followed by a SHA-256 hash verification to guarantee data integrity.
Connections strictly target *.replit.dev hosts to block outbound drifts. When parsing local ~/.ssh/config files, the server relies on an AST evaluator instead of spawning shell subshells for Match exec directives. Authentication relies on a local key on disk rather than environment secrets.
Operating this connector requires Node.js 20 or newer alongside an active Replit Core plan. You can invoke replit_setup_ssh to generate your key pair, then register the public key in your Replit account profile. The connection fails if your project environment is paused or offline.
What it helps with
- read and modify Replit project files remotely over SFTP
- verify written files using SHA-256 hash checks
- generate local SSH key pairs and configuration blocks
- browse directory listings and search codebase files
Example prompts for the agent
- Run
replit_check_connectionand list all files in the project root - Generate a fresh key using
replit_setup_ssh - Inspect
package.jsoninside the Replit container

Questions about Replit SSH
How do I install Replit SSH in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add mcp-server-replit-ssh -- npx -y @mindstone/mcp-server-replit-ssh. Ensure Node.js 20 or higher is installed beforehand.
What does Replit SSH do?
It provides local AI assistants with direct SSH and SFTP file access to Replit projects. Tools allow reading, writing, searching, and moving remote files with atomic checksum validation.
What prerequisites does Replit require?
You need a Replit Core tier or higher for SSH permissions, plus an active *.replit.dev host address. Generated public keys must be added under your Replit account settings.
