Oh My Posh Validator — Claude Code MCP server: config checks
Validates oh-my-posh configurations and single prompt segments against the official schema. Handy when a theme fails to load because of a typo in JSON, YAML or TOML.
claude mcp add --transport http validator https://ohmyposh.dev/api/mcpWhat Oh My Posh Validator does
The server exposes two tools. validate_config takes a whole config and returns errors with JSON paths, while validate_segment checks one prompt segment — useful when you add a block to a theme and want to leave the rest untouched.
Input formats are JSON, YAML and TOML. The response carries valid, errors and warnings arrays, the detected format and the parsed config object. Warnings cover best practices and deprecations, such as a missing $schema property.
The server runs at https://ohmyposh.dev/api/mcp over HTTP. To test locally, start it from the website/api directory with npm start and send requests to http://localhost:7071/api/mcp. Node.js with npm is required for that local run.
What it helps with
- check a theme before wiring it into your shell profile
- find the exact field path that breaks validation
- test a single prompt segment before adding it to a full theme
- catch deprecated fields and schema drift in YAML or TOML
- verify a config an agent generated against the official schema
Example prompts for the agent
- Validate
~/.config/oh-my-posh/theme.jsonwith validate_config - Run this segment through validate_segment and show me the errors
- Validate the TOML config and list the warnings
