Ledgr — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Ledgr lets an AI agent query your personal finance data through MCP. Ask about spending, income, or net worth without opening a report.
Open on GitHubWhat Ledgr does
Ledgr is a personal finance app you can run on your own server. It syncs transactions through Plaid or SimpleFIN, sorts them into categories, and tracks budgets, investments, recurring bills, and financial reports. You need Docker and Docker Compose to run it.
Its built-in MCP server lets an AI agent retrieve financial information from natural-language questions. Set MCP_ENABLED=true in .env and restart the app before connecting an agent. Claude Code setup uses the repository’s marketplace and plugin commands.
Plaid requires a client_id and secret; SimpleFIN or CSV import are alternatives. SimpleFIN syncs accounts on a daily schedule. Keep the encryption key with your database: losing it means losing access to encrypted tokens.
What it helps with
- ask an agent to total spending in a category for a period
- compare spending against monthly category budgets
- review changes in income and net worth
- track investments and recurring charges
Example prompts for the agent
- How much did I spend on restaurants last month?
- Compare my category spending with the monthly budgets.
- Show how my income and net worth have changed.
