Chart Library — Claude Code MCP server: market state and research

Lets an agent pull finished-session market states, historical analogs and published studies with their sources attached. Useful when you want figures with caveats, not a bare quote.

What Chart Library — Market-state research does

Five read-only tools come with the server. market_state answers with a completed session, historical analogs, outcome ranges, transition memory and tape. daily_note returns the published daily note, and research_quality gives a calibration receipt with a dated sample. Two more handle publications: search_research finds them by query, read_research opens one by ID with pagination and hashes.

Connection runs over Streamable HTTP at https://chartlibrary.io/mcp with no authentication. A local package, chartlibrary-mcp, also exists: Python 3.10+ is required and the release pins mcp>=1.28.1,<2.0.0, so MCP 2.x is a separate migration. Set CHART_LIBRARY_API_KEY and it travels as a Bearer token; an empty value sends no Authorization header.

Leave the date out and you get the latest built session rather than a live quote. Pass dates as YYYY-MM-DD. Historical frequencies are not buy or sell advice, and the coverage percentage from research_quality covers only the population its receipt names. Search summaries are discovery metadata, so read the document itself before repeating any claim.

What it helps with

  • pull a symbol's finished-session state with historical analogs
  • find a published study on a topic and open its source document
  • check sample sizes and method notes before citing numbers
  • read the daily note with its selection rule for a given date
  • query the same data over HTTP from a script without an MCP client

Example prompts for the agent

  • Read AAPL's latest completed-session state and report the analog ranges, sample sizes, session date and limitations
  • Search publications for IONQ at noon, then read the article section of the result I pick
  • Show the calibration receipt and tell me which sample it covers

Questions about Chart Library — Market-state research

How do I install Chart Library in Claude Code?

Add the remote endpoint with one command: claude mcp add --transport http chart-library https://chartlibrary.io/mcp. For a local run with a key: claude mcp add --env CHART_LIBRARY_API_KEY=<CHART_LIBRARY_API_KEY> --transport stdio chart-library-market-state-research -- uvx chartlibrary-mcp.

What does Chart Library do?

It answers an agent's market questions: completed-session state, historical analogs and published research with IDs and versions. Every tool only reads.

Do I need an API key, and what about rate limits?

No key is required and research access is free. Service limits and data terms still apply, so honor HTTP 429 and its retry guidance instead of assuming unlimited throughput.
