india-stock-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: Indian market data
Gives your agent NSE and BSE quotes, company fundamentals, mutual fund NAV, option chains and IPO lists. No API keys required.
claude mcp add india-stock-mcp -- npx -y india-stock-mcpWhat india-stock-mcp does
The server exposes 16 tools. get_quote returns price, volume and the 52-week range, while get_historical pulls OHLCV history by day, week or month. You also get symbol lookup by company name, fundamentals such as P/E, EPS, ROE, margins and debt, side-by-side comparison of two to five stocks, and index data for any NSE index plus SENSEX.
Funds and derivatives sit in their own group. search_funds looks up Indian mutual fund schemes, get_fund_nav returns NAV history, and compare_funds lines up two to four funds by return over a chosen period. get_options_chain builds the chain around the ATM strike with LTP, open interest, its change and implied volatility. portfolio_summary turns holdings into current value, P&L and an allocation breakdown.
Node.js 22 is the only prerequisite — the data sources are free and there is no auth. Quotes come from Yahoo Finance, NSE India and mfapi.in, so they can lag by a few minutes; live trading decisions are out of scope. Some NSE endpoints are no longer publicly reachable and the server falls back to Yahoo on its own. Heavy use can get you rate-limited or blocked by NSE. The NIFTY 50 list behind get_gainers_losers is hardcoded as NIFTY50_SYMBOLS in src/index.ts, and since NSE reconstitutes the index roughly twice a year, that list needs a manual update when it happens.
What it helps with
- check a stock quote and how far it sits from its 52-week high
- compare fundamentals across two or three banks
- find the top NIFTY 50 gainers for the day
- see where open interest clusters in the NIFTY option chain
- value a portfolio from a list of holdings and buy prices
Example prompts for the agent
- Compare HDFC Bank vs ICICI Bank vs SBI fundamentals
- NIFTY option chain — where's the max open interest?
