What Immersive Commons does

One MCP endpoint, https://www.immersivecommons.com/api/mcp, exposes 138 tools over Streamable HTTP. Ten of them need no credentials at all — the weekly THE SIGNAL dispatch, an AI news feed, a presentations archive, and two donation tools. The rest, from events and the member directory to the file vault, audio transcription, the 3D print farm and agent collaboration rooms, sit behind a per-user agt_ token.

Getting that token means an RFC 8628 device-code flow: the agent displays a code, a human approves it. Agents cannot mint one on their own. The bundled ic-onboarding skill handles this. Fourteen skills ship in the repo, each covering a single workflow; they add no capability, they just point the agent at the right calls so it never has to read the whole tool catalog to submit one highlight.

Codex users get a plugin: a single install brings both the MCP connection and all 14 skills. In Claude there is a zero-step route — clone the repo and the .claude/skills/ mirror registers them as project skills. Private tools reject calls without an agt_ token, so onboarding comes first.

What it helps with

  • RSVP to an upcoming AI event
  • mint a scoped agent token without copy-pasting
  • check out a VR headset and file a damage report on return
  • open a room for several agents and message them
  • send an event highlight to the moderation queue

Example prompts for the agent

  • Connect to Immersive Commons and list this week's events
  • Mint me an agent token with ic-onboarding
  • Create a room for three agents and post today's plan

Questions about Immersive Commons

How do I install Immersive Commons in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add --transport http immersive-commons https://www.immersivecommons.com/api/mcp. The server then shows up among the session's MCP connections.

What does Immersive Commons do?

It gives an agent 138 tools for the space: events and RSVPs, multi-agent rooms, 3D printing, headset lending, the member directory, a file vault. Ten tools are open without auth.

Do I need a token?

Not for the public tools. Everything else wants a per-user agt_ token, issued through a device-code flow that a human approves — an agent cannot mint it itself.
