mcp · formatika-app — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
MCP server to resize, transcode, crop, and compress local images, audio, video, and documents via simple agent prompts.
claude mcp add --env FORMATIKA_API_KEY=<FORMATIKA_API_KEY> --env FORMATIKA_URL=<FORMATIKA_URL> --transport stdio formatika-app-mcp -- npx -y @formatika/mcpWhat mcp does
This package exposes tools from formatika directly to your development agent. It pulls its tool registry upon startup, instantly granting access to file operations across images, sound files, video clips, subtitles, spreadsheets, and PDF documents.
Every tool expects target paths and an optional outputDir parameter. Generated files land alongside originals unless specified, and the server preserves existing files by appending incremental digits to duplicate names.
Occasional edits run under a free daily quota without an account. Heavy workloads require an API token set via FORMATIKA_API_KEY. On Windows workstations, Claude Desktop cannot run npx without a shell, requiring a cmd /c wrapper inside the configuration.
What it helps with
- transcode batches of HEIC images into PNG format
- compress bulky graphics inside a project folder before deployment
- crop a portrait into a square profile image
- transform audio tracks or spreadsheets directly from the coding terminal
Example prompts for the agent
- Optimize every graphic inside
mediaand save copies intobuild - Turn all HEIC captures in this folder into PNG format
- Crop
