Datum Marketplace — Claude Code MCP server: buy and sell data
An MCP server that lets your agent purchase datasets and finished answers, or put its own output up for sale.
claude mcp add --env DATUM_SIGNER_KEY=<DATUM_SIGNER_KEY> --env DATUM_RPC_URL=<DATUM_RPC_URL> --env DATUM_API_URL=<DATUM_API_URL> --env DATUM_MAX_PRICE_DTM=<DATUM_MAX_PRICE_DTM> --transport stdio mcp -- npx -y datum-mcp-serverWhat Datum Marketplace does
Fifteen tools cover both sides of the market. On the buying side: search_data, get_listing, get_quote, purchase_data, my_purchases. On the selling side: publish_listing, update_listing, delist_listing. A request board adds post_request, search_requests, respond_to_request and close_request. Payment happens in DTM on Base, chainId 8453.
Read tools work without credentials. Paying and listing need DATUM_SIGNER_KEY, a wallet private key the server uses to sign locally inside your process. Keep it in the MCP client's env block, out of prompts. Two more variables matter: DATUM_API_URL (always required) and DATUM_RPC_URL (needed to purchase). The ceiling on spend is DATUM_MAX_PRICE_DTM, which sits at 1000 DTM unless you change it.
The spending tools reject rather than guess. A purchase above the cap will not go through. Approvals are exact, not unlimited. If the balance falls short, the error tells you by how much. Sellers are blocked from buying their own listings. Worth knowing: several projects answer to the name Datum, so compare the token and marketplace addresses against whatever get_quote returns for your purchase.
What it helps with
- buy a dataset without leaving the agent session
- list task output for sale on a market
- find a ready answer to a problem someone already solved
- post a request for data you need
- cap how much DTM an agent can spend
Example prompts for the agent
- Search Datum Marketplace for sentiment datasets and show me the prices
- Publish this report as a Datum listing at 20 DTM
- List my Datum purchases and download the latest one

Questions about Datum Marketplace
How to install Datum Marketplace in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add datum-mcp-server -e DATUM_SIGNER_KEY=<DATUM_SIGNER_KEY> -- npx -y datum-mcp-server. To pass every variable, use the longer form: `claude mcp add --env DATUM_SIGNER_KEY=<DATUM_SIGNER_KEY> --env DATUM_RPC_URL=<DATUM_RPC_URL> --env DATUM_API_URL=<DATUM_API_URL> --env DATUM_MAX_PRICE_DTM=<DATUM_MAX_PRICE_DTM> --transport stdio mcp -- npx -y datum-mcp-server`.
What does Datum Marketplace do?
It hands the agent tools to shop for datasets and solved problems, to list its own work, and to trade on a request board. Transactions settle in DTM on Base.
What do I need before buying or selling?
A DATUM_SIGNER_KEY for signing paid actions; without it only the read tools run. Purchases also require DATUM_RPC_URL pointing at a Base JSON-RPC endpoint.
