Financial Modeling Prep MCP Server — Claude Code MCP server
Connects models to Financial Modeling Prep API data, covering stocks, SEC filings, and macro metrics. It brings corporate financial research directly into developer chats.
claude mcp add --transport http financial-modeling-prep-mcp-server https://financial-modeling-prep-mcp-server-production.up.railway.app/mcpWhat Financial Modeling Prep MCP Server does
This server connects AI assistants to Financial Modeling Prep API endpoints. It provides 250+ tools across 24 categories. The tools cover stocks, ETF metrics, forex pairs, crypto, and commodities. Models can also inspect corporate balance sheets, SEC filings, and insider trades.
Three execution modes exist. The default mode exposes all tools immediately, which risks crowding context. Setting DYNAMIC_TOOL_DISCOVERY=true boots 5 meta-tools built on toolception to activate toolsets when requested. You can also specify toolsets directly with FMP_TOOL_SETS.
Self-hosting version 2.6.0+ requires Node.js 25.3.0 or higher. Without an FMP_ACCESS_TOKEN, calls fail. Using the hosted Railway URL over HTTP avoids updating local runtimes.
What it helps with
- fetch balance sheets and valuation multiples by company ticker
- inspect insider transactions and SEC filings for public firms
- pull price series across stocks, cryptocurrencies, and commodities
- prevent context bloat by loading financial toolsets dynamically
Example prompts for the agent
- Show the recent SEC filings and insider trades for MSFT
- Fetch valuation ratios and quarterly revenue numbers for AAPL
- Check spot prices for crude oil and the USD/EUR exchange rate
