What e2e does

The server connects the e2e testing framework to coding agents. It lets an assistant launch active web and mobile app sessions, inspect UI screens, and test locators. Inside tests, developers describe goals in natural language so an agent drives the UI, combined with strict locator assertions in the same file.

Once an assertion confirms an agent action, the framework caches the steps. Subsequent test runs replay that recorded flow without calling any AI model, saving tokens until the UI changes. Web testing relies on Playwright across Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit, while mobile suites drive iOS simulators and Android emulators.

The framework is still approaching version 1.0, so minor releases may alter APIs and configurations. You must provide your own API key, account, or local model. By default, the CLI gathers anonymous crash and usage telemetry, which stops via E2E_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1 or npx e2e telemetry disable.

What it helps with

  • inspect live web or mobile UI to verify element locators
  • execute natural language test steps on iOS simulators and Android emulators
  • record verified agent actions to replay tests without model requests
  • bootstrap test suite configuration with npx e2e init

Example prompts for the agent

  • Open a live web session and find the locator for the Pro plan upgrade button.
  • Run the mobile test on an iOS simulator and inspect the invoice preview screen.
  • Write an e2e test where the agent navigates to /settings/billing and asserts the workspace status.

Questions about e2e

How do I install e2e in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add e2e -- npx -y e2e. This registers the MCP server in Claude Code using npx.

What does the e2e MCP server do?

It lets coding assistants open active sessions of web and mobile apps. The agent can examine UI elements, verify locators, and help compose end-to-end test scenarios.

Does every test run require an AI model?

No. Once an assertion validates an agent step, the framework records the actions and replays them on future runs without model calls until the app UI changes.
