Anki — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Connects an AI client to an Anki collection through AnkiConnect for quizzes, study stats, weak-card searches, and bulk edits.
Open on GitHubWhat Anki does
Anki gives an MCP client access to an Anki collection through AnkiConnect. The agent can show due cards, quiz you one card at a time, record each answer, and report retention data. It can also find cards with repeated lapses and inspect their review history.
The server can create single notes or batches, build cloze cards, edit fields and tags, move cards between decks, and pause a labeled group for later restoration. Bulk writes support a dry run, while deletion uses a confirmation step. Audio actions require AZURE_API_KEY and use Azure Text-to-Speech.
You need Node.js 18+, a running Anki instance, and the AnkiConnect add-on with code 2055492159. If Anki is closed, the assistant asks you to open it instead of silently failing. The server can be added with npx or built from the repository.
What it helps with
- check which cards are due by deck
- run a quiz and save answers to Anki
- locate cards with repeated lapses
- edit notes, fields, or tags in bulk
- pause a card group and restore it later
Example prompts for the agent
- Show today’s due cards grouped by deck, then tell me the review totals.
- Find cards tagged
grammar, list the weakest ones, and prepare an approved bulk edit.
