adam-framework — Claude Code MCP server: memory and setup
Keeps a local assistant’s memory in Vault files, so it can survive a model change or machine reset. Search notes during a conversation.
claude mcp add --env ADAM_VAULT_PATH=<ADAM_VAULT_PATH> --transport stdio adam-framework -- uvx adam-mcpWhat adam-framework does
adam-framework adds persistent memory to local assistants built on OpenClaw. Its records live in readable Markdown files rather than a model vendor’s infrastructure, so switching models does not take the Vault with it.
The framework describes five layers for memory, coherence, and identity. Layer 5 monitors reasoning consistency during a session and can re-anchor the assistant to its context. The MCP server supports Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf (Devin Desktop), Cline, and Zed. You need OpenClaw running with a model and an ADAM_VAULT_PATH value; without a configured Vault, the server has no memory files to access.
For Claude Code, setup runs adam-mcp through uvx. This extends an existing OpenClaw assistant; it does not replace OpenClaw.
What it helps with
- keep assistant context across sessions
- search Vault notes mid-conversation
- restore memory after a machine reset
- carry memory across model changes
- spot coherence drift during a session
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the Vault notes about the current project.
- Recall the earlier decisions from my memory files.
- Check whether your reasoning has drifted from this session’s context.
How to install adam-framework
Platform CLI
claude mcp add --env ADAM_VAULT_PATH=<ADAM_VAULT_PATH> --transport stdio adam-framework -- uvx adam-mcpReplace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from adam-mcp <command>
Platform CLI
codex mcp add adam-framework --env ADAM_VAULT_PATH=<ADAM_VAULT_PATH> -- uvx adam-mcpReplace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from adam-mcp <command>

Questions about adam-framework
How do I install adam-framework in Claude Code?
Set the Vault path when adding the MCP server: claude mcp add --env ADAM_VAULT_PATH=<ADAM_VAULT_PATH> --transport stdio adam-framework -- uvx adam-mcp.
What does adam-framework do?
It stores a local assistant’s memory and identity in Vault files. Those files remain available when you change models or restore after a machine reset.
What does adam-framework need to run?
It needs OpenClaw running with a connected model, plus ADAM_VAULT_PATH set to the Vault location.
