UnrealMCP — Unreal Engine 5 MCP server: 288 commands
Wires an AI client into the Unreal Engine 5 editor: materials, Blueprints, Niagara, actors and data tables. Handy when you would rather stay in the terminal.
claude mcp add unreal-mcp -- uvx unrealmcpWhat UnrealMCP — AI Bridge for Unreal Engine 5 does
A C++ plugin called UnrealMCPBridge runs inside the editor and serves 288 commands across 15 categories over TCP on localhost:55557. The Python MCP server is one of two front doors to that plugin; the other is the Go CLI ue-cli. Both speak TCP/JSON to the same bridge.
Install the server with pip install unrealmcp, but that alone gets you nowhere. You still have to clone the plugin into your project's Plugins/UnrealMCP, enable it in the .uproject, and compile it in the editor. Python 3.10+ and Unreal Engine 5.3 or newer are the floor.
This is the community build. What it covers works, and issues still get read, but new subsystem work happens in the commercial CodeFizz Editor Agent instead. Control Rig, PCG, Sequencer, MetaSounds, Behavior Trees and EQS are Pro-only, and there are no prebuilt binaries for UE 5.6, 5.7 or 5.8 here — you build the plugin yourself.
What it helps with
- build a material graph without opening the editor
- place a list of actors in the level
- read rows out of a data table
- wire up Blueprint graph nodes
- set up a Niagara system from the terminal
Example prompts for the agent
- Build the material
/Game/M_Testfrom the nodes I describe - Find every material under
/Gameand list them - Spawn a StaticMeshActor named MyCube at height 100

Questions about UnrealMCP — AI Bridge for Unreal Engine 5
How do I install UnrealMCP in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add unreal-mcp -- uvx unrealmcp. Before that, clone the plugin into Plugins/UnrealMCP in your project and compile it in the editor.
What does UnrealMCP do?
It exposes the Unreal Engine 5 editor to an AI client through 288 commands covering materials, Blueprints, Niagara, actors, data tables and profiling.
How is the community edition different from Pro?
CodeFizz Editor Agent ships more commands and categories, adds Control Rig, PCG, Sequencer, MetaSounds, Behavior Trees and EQS, and comes as prebuilt binaries for UE 5.6, 5.7 and 5.8. None of that is in this repo.
