starreel — Claude Code MCP server: script to finished episode
An MCP server that walks a script through the whole video pipeline and hands back a link to the finished .mp4.
claude mcp add starreel -e STARREEL_API_KEY=<STARREEL_API_KEY> -- npx -y @starreel/mcpWhat starreel does
StarReel runs a prepaid AI video-production pipeline, and this server hands its tools to your agent — over 120 of them across every stage. The route goes from script to AI rewrite, then casting, scenes and props, storyboards, character portraits and sheets, keyframes, video shots, voiceover and the final cut. The heavy work — keeping characters consistent, chaining frames, auditing the best of several takes, billing — happens server-side at starreel.ai. The client stays thin.
Get an API key with the produce scope under StarReel → Settings → API Keys before anything else. It looks like srk_live_... and is shown once; without it the server will not start. Node 18 or newer is required since everything runs through npx. Tool descriptions and server instructions ship in Simplified Chinese. Setting STARREEL_MCP_LANG=en switches to the English edition: the entry-point instructions are in English, while tool descriptions are still being translated in waves, so anything not yet covered falls back to Chinese. The startup log on stderr shows how much is done.
Many clients work out of the box: the standard mcpServers block fits Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, Claude Desktop and others, while Codex CLI, VS Code and Gemini CLI each use their own config format. No Node, so npx is out? The same pipeline is reachable over REST at /v1/produce/*, and SKILL.md can go straight into a system prompt — it holds the step order, the billing rules and what to do when a stage fails.
What it helps with
- turn a script into a finished
.mp4episode without manual assembly - keep a character's look consistent across shots
- generate storyboards and frames from an existing shot list
- add voiceover and pick music that matches a scene's mood
- translate subtitles for another language version
Example prompts for the agent
- Take this script and produce a full episode:
<your script> - Quote the storyboards first, then generate them
- Compose the final cut and give me the
.mp4link
