What video-translation does

The skill takes a video URL, downloads the file with its subtitles as SRT, translates the lines sentence by sentence and renders a new track through TTS. The video itself stays as it was — only the audio changes.

It leans on two other skills. youtube-downloader fetches the video and subtitles in the source language, tts renders audio against the subtitle timestamps, and the Noiz backend stretches each sentence to fit the original cue. Pass the source file to --ref-audio-track and the engine slices the original audio at every timestamp, using those clips as the voice reference for that segment. The last step is replace_audio.sh, which merges video and dubbed audio; the --srt flag keeps the background sound between translated segments intact.

You need a NOIZ_API_KEY for the Noiz backend and ffmpeg on the machine. The youtube-downloader and tts skills have to sit in your skills/ folder — copy them in yourself if they are not there yet. One catch worth knowing before you start: the source video must have subtitles in the original language, auto-generated ones included. Without them there is nothing to translate and the pipeline stops at step one.

What it helps with

  • translate speech in a foreign video into your own language
  • generate a dub that keeps the subtitle timestamps
  • swap the audio track without re-encoding the video
  • keep background sound outside the translated segments
  • clone the speaker's voice from the original track
