Your Move Exercise Video API — Claude Code MCP server for workouts
An MCP server that gives your coding agent a searchable exercise library with videos, plus workout and program generation.
claude mcp add exercise-api -e YMOVE_API_KEY=<YMOVE_API_KEY> -- npx -y ymove-exercise-mcpWhat Your Move Exercise Video API does
The server wraps the YMove Exercise Video API and exposes six tools. search_exercises filters by muscle group, equipment, difficulty and type; get_exercise returns video links, instructions and the muscles involved. Two more tools build training content: generate_workout for a single session with sets, reps and rest, generate_program for a multi-week plan with periodization. The list_muscle_groups and list_exercise_types tools report what is in the library and how much of it.
You can connect either way. The hosted endpoint at https://exercise-api.ymove.app/mcp needs no install, and the key travels in the X-API-Key header. The local route runs npx ymove-exercise-mcp and reads YMOVE_API_KEY from the environment. Keys come from the API docs, which offer a free trial.
No key, no server — that applies to both routes, header or environment variable. The local route also expects Node.js with npx available. Config files for Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Gemini CLI and Claude Desktop differ only in shape.
What it helps with
- find exercises for a given muscle group and piece of equipment
- pull up a video link and form instructions for one movement
- build a single workout with sets, reps and rest periods
- lay out a training plan spanning several weeks
- see which muscle groups and exercise types the library covers
Example prompts for the agent
- Find dumbbell exercises that target the chest
- Build a six-exercise back workout at intermediate level
- Write a four-week muscle building program with four sessions a week

Questions about Your Move Exercise Video API
How do I install Your Move Exercise Video API in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add exercise-api -e YMOVE_API_KEY=<YMOVE_API_KEY> -- npx -y ymove-exercise-mcp. Or point Claude at the hosted server: claude mcp add --transport http your-move-exercise-video-api https://exercise-api.ymove.app/mcp.
What does Your Move Exercise Video API do?
It connects your agent to an exercise library with videos and instructions, and adds tools that generate workouts and multi-week programs.
What do I need before using it?
A YMove API key. The hosted endpoint takes it in the X-API-Key header; the local server reads YMOVE_API_KEY. The local route runs through npx.
