Reddit Trends API — Claude Code MCP server: Reddit trends
Gives your agent subreddit activity data: history, growth windows and a live hot-post feed. A Trends API key is required.
claude mcp add --transport http reddit-trends-api https://reddit.api.trendsapi.ai/mcpWhat Reddit Trends API does
Three calls are exposed: a time series for one keyword, percent growth across chosen windows, and the current hot-post list. The community goes into the keyword without the r/ prefix, so wallstreetbets rather than r/wallstreetbets. The value field is a 0-100 index for that series, not a subscriber count.
Under the hood it talks to POST https://api.trendsapi.ai/api and authenticates with Authorization: Bearer $TRENDSAPI_KEY. The same key works for the trendsapi-reddit Python package, which ships both sync and async clients. Every 200 response is one billed request, though asking for several growth windows at once still counts as a single one.
Reading is all you get. Posting, voting and comment streaming are out of scope. A 400 means the spelling of source or type is off — source is lowercase (reddit), type is exact (Reddit Hot Posts). On 404 there is no series for that keyword, so retrying will not help.
What it helps with
- chart how a subreddit's activity moved over 12 months
- compare several growth windows in a single call
- pull the current Reddit hot posts
- load a time series into pandas and resample by month
- check whether a topic is gaining discussion before launch
Example prompts for the agent
- Show me the discussion trend for
wallstreetbetsover the past year - Compare
wallstreetbetsgrowth for 3M and 12M - List 10 Reddit hot posts right now
