Ply UI — MCP server for Claude Code: Angular and Tailwind components
Hands your coding agent the Ply component catalog for Angular and Tailwind: search, metadata, and installs through the CLI.
claude mcp add --transport http ply-ui https://mcp.ply-ui.com/mcpWhat Ply UI does
The server sits on top of the public Ply registry and the npx ply-ui-cli installer. Agents can enumerate components, run catalog searches, pull metadata, and drop chosen ones into a project. Files land in your repo because the install path calls ply-ui-cli add --yes.
Tools split by job. list_components, search_components and get_component cover browsing. add_components, init_project, update_components, diff_components and doctor touch the project itself. Free source comes back only when includeSource is true. Pro source never travels over MCP, and installing Pro items requires PLY_LICENSE_KEY on the server process.
Point PLY_CWD at the app root — the folder holding ply-ui.json, not the library repo. ${workspaceFolder} resolves in Cursor and VS Code; Windsurf and Claude Desktop want an absolute path. Terminal agents launch the server from the directory you run them in, so start them at the app root. Run npx ply-ui-cli init --yes in that app before add, init, update, doctor or diff.
What it helps with
- find an Angular component by what it does, not by filename
- install a button and a card without leaving the agent
- scaffold Ply config in a fresh app
- see which tracked components drifted from upstream
- pull upstream updates into components you already copied
Example prompts for the agent
- Search the Ply catalog for a dialog component and show me its metadata
- Add the
buttonandcardcomponents to this project - Run
doctorand tell me what is wrong with the Ply setup

Questions about Ply UI
How do I install Ply UI in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http ply-ui https://mcp.ply-ui.com/mcp. It connects over HTTP, so there is no local process to start.
What does Ply UI do?
It gives an agent the Ply catalog of Angular and Tailwind components: search, metadata, plus install and update of files in your project through ply-ui-cli.
Is this the same as base-ui-mcp?
No. base-ui-mcp belongs to MUI Base UI for React, while Ply UI targets Angular. The older base-ui-ng-mcp name is deprecated; use npx -y ply-ui-mcp.
