Iconoteka — Claude Code MCP server: icon search and SVG
Gives your assistant a catalog of 1,400 icons across 7 weights and 2 styles, and hands back real SVG markup instead of a guessed path.
claude mcp add iconoteka -- npx -y iconoteka-mcpWhat Iconoteka does
An assistant asked for an icon usually improvises the path. This server makes it look the icon up and return the actual markup. Everything runs offline, because the icon data ships inside the npm package.
Three tools come with it. search_icons matches on meaning or name and reports which weights and styles an icon has, along with its other keywords. get_icon returns markup for one icon or for a batch — up to 24 in a single call, which covers a whole toolbar. list_categories lists 23 categories with icon counts.
Weight is set with weight: thin, ultralight, light, regular, medium, semibold, bold, and regular applies when you leave it out. Style takes stroke or fill, stroke being the default. Most icons carry all 14 variants; a few have 7 or 8. Ask for a variant that does not exist and the server tells you what to use instead. The path uses currentColor, so an icon picks up the text colour around it. MIT covers both the server and the icons, closed-source projects included; the Iconoteka name and logo sit outside that grant.
What it helps with
- drop an icon into a UI without hand-writing the path
- fetch SVG for a full button row in one request
- find an icon by meaning rather than exact name
- pick the right weight and style for a layout
- see which icon categories the set contains
Example prompts for the agent
- Find a notification bell icon in medium weight
- Give me the SVG for
bell, trashandpenin stroke style - What icon categories does Iconoteka have?
