Pixelbolt pixel art toolkit — Claude Code MCP server: setup guide
Builds pixel art and sprite animations from editable JSON recipes. Useful when agents need to generate, inspect, and tweak 2D game graphics frame by frame.
Open on GitHubWhat Pixelbolt pixel art toolkit does
Pixelbolt converts structured JSON recipes into transparent PNG sprites, texture atlases, and GIF animations. Agents feed palettes and grids, then read back rendered pixels. The recipe remains plain text. Because of this, the model can adjust a single dot without repainting the entire canvas.
A lightweight fluid engine handles smoke and fire. It runs directly on the CPU in under a second and bakes loops into palette colors. Character rigs rely on skeletal limbs: walk or jump templates automatically expand into pose sequences.
Node.js 20 or newer is strictly required. Without this runtime, the server will fail to launch. Strict technical limits apply: frames max out at 256 × 256 pixels, while projects cannot surpass 256 frames or 4,194,304 total pixels.
What it helps with
- generate 2D game sprites and tiles from declarative JSON recipes
- simulate fire and smoke effects directly on the CPU
- assemble bone-based character animations for walks and jumps
- export graphics into texture atlases and GIFs
Example prompts for the agent
- Call the
pixel_helptool and list commands for drawing sprites. - Compile
character.poses.jsoninto a run animation and inspect the poses. - Generate an explosion effect with fire simulation and export it to GIF.

Questions about Pixelbolt pixel art toolkit
How to install Pixelbolt pixel art toolkit?
Clone the repository using git clone https://github.com/skulitom/Pixelbolt.git, navigate inside with cd Pixelbolt, and run node bin/pixelbolt.js preview --open. The package is also indexed in the MCP Registry as io.github.skulitom/pixelbolt.
What does Pixelbolt pixel art toolkit do?
It translates JSON recipes into raster sprites, texture atlases, and animated GIFs. An AI agent inspects exact pixel coordinates and revises individual frames without causing unexpected visual regressions.
What canvas limits does Pixelbolt enforce?
Each frame is limited to 256 × 256 pixels. A project cannot exceed 256 frames or 4,194,304 total pixels, and external imports are restricted to 8-bit RGB or RGBA PNG files.
