What paste does

This server bridges your AI tools with Paste directly on your Mac using npx @pasteapp/mcp. It allows the assistant to search your copied clips, read previous clipboard entries into the chat prompt, and push generated responses directly onto dedicated pinboards. Everything operates locally without routing clip data to external Paste infrastructure.

Running this integration requires macOS, Paste version 6.6 or higher with the MCP toggle turned on in preferences, and Node.js 18+. If Paste is not active in the background, tool calls will fail immediately.

What it helps with

  • retrieve copied code snippets from the Mac clipboard history
  • feed previous clipboard items into the active conversation prompt
  • export generated code or notes directly to a Paste pinboard

Example prompts for the agent

  • Find the API key snippet I copied earlier in Paste
  • Pull the last copied stack trace from my clipboard into the prompt
  • Save this shell script to my Snippets pinboard in Paste
