EngrAmo — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects the EngrAmo spaced-repetition platform to your AI tools. Lets you generate study flashcards and review decks directly in conversation.
claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://mcp.engramo.app/What EngrAmo does
The server connects AI assistants to the EngrAmo flashcard service. You can point your client to the hosted endpoint at https://mcp.engramo.app/ with OAuth 2.0 or run the @engramo/mcp package locally over stdio.
Local execution requires an account token alongside ENGRAMO_API_URL. Passing ENGRAMO_TTS_GEMINI_API_KEYS enables voice synthesis tools like list_tts_voices and generate_card_audio.
Hosted setups drop local speech synthesis entirely. If you want Gemini text-to-speech, run the server locally over stdio. Also keep backends distinct: tokens minted for the dev backend api-engram.volmyr.com do not authenticate against production api.engramo.app.
What it helps with
- generate spaced-repetition cards during coding or chat sessions
- review study decks without leaving the editor
- create card audio using Gemini voice models
- switch between hosted OAuth connections and local stdio setups
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a spaced-repetition flashcard explaining database idempotency.
- Check available voices using
list_tts_voices. - Synthesize audio for this card with
generate_card_audio.

Questions about EngrAmo
How to install EngrAmo in Claude Code?
For a hosted connection, run claude mcp add --transport http engramo https://mcp.engramo.app/. For a local setup with your own keys, run `claude mcp add --env ENGRAMO_API_TOKEN=<ENGRAMO_API_TOKEN> --env ENGRAMO_API_URL=<ENGRAMO_API_URL> --env ENGRAMO_TTS_GEMINI_API_KEYS=<ENGRAMO_TTS_GEMINI_API_KEYS> --transport stdio engramo -- npx -y @engramo/mcp`.
What does the EngrAmo MCP server do?
It gives your AI assistant tools to create and study EngrAmo flashcards. You can manage cards and practice material directly within your client session.
Why is local stdio required for card audio?
Local voice generation relies on ENGRAMO_TTS_GEMINI_API_KEYS to talk to Gemini directly. The hosted HTTP connector leaves local speech synthesis disabled.
