What pagecast does

Pagecast is an MCP server that drives Chromium, replays your actions on a page and turns the capture into a GIF or MP4. The cursor gets a highlight, clicks leave a ripple, and export can add a magnified inset near each interaction or a smooth camera pan between targets.

The work is split across tools. record_page opens a URL and starts capturing, interact_page handles clicks, typing, scrolling and navigation, stop_recording writes a .webm plus a -timeline.json. Then smart_export, cinematic_export, convert_to_gif or convert_to_mp4 produce the final file, and record_and_export chains the whole thing in one call. You don't have to work out dimensions yourself — name the destination and the server picks a platform preset.

Node.js 20 or newer and ffmpeg in PATH are required; without ffmpeg the conversion step won't run. The Playwright browser is installed separately with npx playwright install chromium. The window is visible by default, and --headless sends it to the background.

What it helps with

  • record an app demo for a README
  • produce a vertical clip for Reels or TikTok
  • rebuild the demo after UI changes
  • attach a recording of the steps to a bug report
  • turn a captured .webm into MP4

Example prompts for the agent

  • Record a demo of localhost:3000 for my GitHub README
  • Make a TikTok demo of my dashboard
